Carthage Hosts A 3 Week Summer Arts Camp Called "This Is My Place"
In 2020, Carthage College received a grant to facilitate a summer arts program at the Boys and Girls Club of Kenosha. “Art lets one become the person they imagine themselves to be as an adult,” said foundation co-creators Joe Madrigrano Jr. and Bob Lee Jr. As a Cinematographer, I worked on a team that produced a documentary to highlighted the whole experience.

Cinematographer/Editor
As a Cinematographer for the Boys and Girls Club of Kenosha, I:
-
Worked on a small team of 3 to plan shots for the week and run test shoots on equipment
-
Interviewed club members and volunteers
-
Stayed active and alert to record club members in a live setting
-
Managed more than 1000 video and photo files
-
Edited different sections of the documentary and mixed audio
My producer told me that two of the hardest things to capture are animals and children. After working in this fast-paced, high-stress environment, I can easily agree with her. This was my first time working with and filming children, and I learned plenty about patience, managing stressful environments, and being flexible/adaptable on the job. While at the Boy's & Girls Club, I filmed the members as they participated in their daily activities. After 3 weeks of working on-set, we had 2 weeks to go through all the files and produce a short documentary on the importance of the experience. Post-production efforts included video editing, mixing audio, and color grading. I was able to use my communication skills to ensure that all team members were on the same page working efficiently towards our goal.
